Restober

Last weekend I woke up feeling really tired. Exhausted tired. It was cold and rainy and I wanted to stay in bed. I got up, meditated, had some coffee, but couldn’t shake the tired. I found myself getting annoyed at my exhaustion and thinking a lot of things like, “I really should go to the gym.” Then I heard in my head what I say all the time to my coaching clients, “If you’re feeling tired, it’s probably because you’re TIRED and need to rest.”

So, I sat on the end of my bed, tuned into my body and asked it what it wanted to do; what would actually feel restful.

It said, “I want to finish “Little Fires Everywhere” in my pajamas.”

“Okay,” I replied, “that’s what I’ll do.”

And I did.

I spent the rest of the day asking my body what it wanted to do. Here’s how I spent my Sunday:

  • I finished a novel

  • I picked a new pattern to knit and sorted my knitting supplies

  • I switched my closet from summer to fall

  • I napped

  • I journaled

  • I cooked a delicious meal

  • I watched TV with my family.

By the end of the day, I not only felt rested, but joyful; like I had refilled my bucket and then some.

On Monday I woke up rested and ready for the week, and that changed how I experienced the entire week.  Everything felt more spacious; time slowed down just a little.

Now, of course, this didn’t last forever. I still live on planet Earth. Trump is still president. These are the realities of life at the moment.

I made it until about Wednesday night before stress set in again. But, it was a good start and a reminder to listen to my body and rest when it tells me to rest.

I’m reclaiming October as Restober and I just might extend that into November.

Wanna join me?

Patty
